FACT032 JOSH LAY & TEETH COLLECTION - LP
Factotum tapes and HUSK RECORDS are beyond proud to announce the official release of the JOSH LAY & TEETH COLLECTION collaboration LP. Recorded in 2008 by Josh Lay in Nicholasville, KY, the lp was suppose to be released the same year, but was shelved do to the failing economy (thanks bush), and now finally sees the light of day. Ltd to 200 copies (!!!! you can also order from husk = huskrecords at yahoo dot com!!!!) in black jackets, hand screened with white ink, and dusted with dark blue paint. Each copy comes in a poly sleeve with an insert and a cd-r attached to the back with a hub. The material on the cd-r was previously released as a dbl cassette on factotum and contains two more tracks from the same session as the LP, and one solo track each. The covers were designed and screened by Matthew Reis. The material is of course two sidelong brain scrapers from inside the ghost factory… exactly what you would expect out of a collab from these two

This has a more flutes played by a babbling brook kind of vibe… spiritual or some shit, and then in other spots it’s like subdued no-wave… I want someone else to explain what meaning sounds like… it gives me a head ache trying to explain it.)

Next on the chopping block, another dayton split, kanable and the vehicle show us what dayton is made of. And the beginning of something I’ve been looking forward to, the “HUSH! quiet music” comp/split series, a 4 cassette series of quiet music from greg davis, jeph jerman, Jason zeh, ben gwilliam, ryan jewell, bryce beverlin II, mark sarich, will Guthrie, jack callhan, servitor, larry marotta, jon Lorenz, matthew endal, kbd, vic rawlings, dawson miller family and myself. This is a great little set and I can’t wait to make if available.

Also to be totally pretentious, some news about me…. I have decided after long and careful consideration to put teeth collection on hold for awhile…. The direction I’ve been going in has been getting quieter and more in the vein of free improv, and the collab lp coming out has kinda helped me realize that what im doing now isan’t really teeth collection anymore… so for now, I’ll keep doing what im doing, but under my own name, and when I go back to teeth collection (because I know I’ll want to, so no need to say it’s dead or anything), it will be more in the vein of what I think teeth collection is better known for, the early industrial / ghost factory / scraping harsher kind of thing. That being said, I’ve also been very quietly making nasty cut up harshness as of late under the name developer (josh lay put out my first tape on husk, we just didn’t tell anyone it was me), so if you remember any of the super super super harsh early teeth collection stuff (like “a young person’s guide to self mutilation” or “defecating your entrails”) that’s kinda what developer sounds like.

PLASMIC FORMATIONS -
“YEARS OF AN UNWANTED PAST”: This release collects the early, un-released works of Josh Fink aka Plasmic Formations, pre-dating even his work with Yes,Collapse (2004 - 06) by several years. In fact several of the tracks were recorded as far back as 1999, before Fink was able to obtain a synth. These are archived from private tapes never intended for any kind of release, recorded quickly and crudely, and the sets ups were crude and minimal, yet upon unearthing the material for this tape it was discovered that even on these early recordings Fink still held the ability to create the expansive, slowly evolving blissed out synth vibe we’ve come to expect. Even while using as little as a contact mic on a cheap bubbling water toy found at a novelty store thru a barrowed delay pedal and an old (new then) kaos pad, still has that horror film soundtrack feel, still has that halucainagenic warmth, that deep space spectral muck.

This release shows Plasmic Formations moving in the direction it has been heading since it’s inception. Mostly influenced (albeit somewhat subconsciously) by watching cult and horror film classics by the likes of Hooper, Romero, Lynch, and Jodorowsky, and a heavy does of psychedelics to fill in the gaps, the vision seems fully realized, sounding somewhat akin to early Tangerine Dream or a synth only Goblin, Plasmic build a tense atmosphere of sound using real time looping, and minimal synth lines, to create rhythmic structured pieces. If you caught Plasmic Formations live on our recent tour, you heard him perform one of these tracks.

“PEPAW – FOR HARLEY DILL”:
after my last living grand parent passed away a few years ago, I was bequeathed a banjo, which I have used on these recordings as almost the only sound source in tribute to my late grand father; Harley Dill, a moon shiner from South Carolina who moved to Ohio in the 50’s for a General Motors job. These recordings are completely acoustic, quiet, improvised noise, with a great deal of personal meaning to me, with the banjo having symbolic meanings to my life and the lives of my family. I feel this is one of the most focused works I’ve ever done.
